Hello. I am searching for work from home customer service jobs. I have came across companies that hire. Other than the Better Business Bureau, where else can I go to find out if the companies are legit?
There are ways to run a background check on a company by searching online. If you have the company's name, it should be no problem. I learned a lot of information about
How to do a Company Background Check
, but it takes a little work for you to do it. When you run a background check on a company, you should also run a background check on the owners. If it is a corporation, then you should do a background search on the Chief Executive Officer and other key managers.
Thanks for the advice. I need to do a company background check to see what opportunities there are for me, a mom of 3. There are a lot of things I could be doing from my home and I just need to find the right company that fits my criteria and that I can help with my knowledge. I need to do a little more digging and see how this type of search is done.
I usually do a lot of research before joining anything. I do a company background search, research CEO's, details about the company (and I really do a lot of digging). Usually, within 1-2 hours I can find out if a company is the right choice or if it looks like a scam.
In the past I didn't do a very good job of this and I got burned 3 times because of my stupidity. But not anymore. I now research everything. I start with a free background search. I often pick up the phone and also check things this way. And not just 1 phone call (as that can also be faked easily), I make a few phone calls as different people. I also try to find others that have used that company and see what they say. The more I research the safer I feel. I can spend between 4 to 20 hours researching a company I really want to join.
I would add that you should use multiple sites to do background checks. Each site will show a few more/less things so it's useful to do this. It's just like when you ask a stranger about a certain bus/subway stop. If you ask a single person chances are you might not get the correct answer. When you ask a few people, your chances of getting bad answers also increase but the chances of a correct answer increase dramatically.
