Child Welfare League of America (CWLA)

CWLA is an advocate for improving the welfare of youth and children in the United States. Associated with over 800 public and private non-profits, CWLA has programs devoted to addressing issues such as child protection and housing and homelessness.

Family and Youth Service Bureau (FYSB)- U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services

A federal agency, FYSB provides financial assistance to state and local organizations that focus on youth and family issues, such as domestic violence and runaway issues. In addition, its website has a listing of initiatives that focus on such family and youth issues.

National Center for Homeless Education

The National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE) provides research, resources, and information enabling communities to address the educational needs of children experiencing homelessness. The Center serves as a clearinghouse of information for people seeking to remove or overcome educational barriers and to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for children and youth experiencing homelessness.

The Center also supports educators and service providers through producing training and awareness materials and providing training at regional and national conferences and events.

National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC)

The NCPC’s focus is to keep America free of crime. While a national organization, the NCPC tries to empower local communities to implement and sustain programs at the local level that fight crime. Additionally, the NCPC believes that crime cannot be lowered unless the fundamental causes are genuinely addressed.


National Clearinghouse on Families and Youth (NCFY)

NCFY is an organization where communities and families can obtain information on issues of youth and families. They also help in providing information sharing, publication development, outreach, and reading room. Additionally, NCFY, in partnership with organizations and communities, provides at-risk youth the opportunity gain positive self-images.

National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH)

Servicing all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, this 24-hour, 7 day a week hotline (1800-799-SAFE) provides crisis intervention, safety information, and referrals. Calls can be done in Spanish while the hotline can get interpreter services for 140 additional languages.


National Resource Center for Youth Services (NRCYS)

The National Resource Center for Youth Service provides training and technical assistance to human service agencies around the country. The goal is for the assistance provided by the NRCYS to, in turn improve the quality of services that human service agencies offer to youth and families.

Prevent Child Abuse America

As its name states, this organization is focused on preventing child abuse. To achieve this, Prevent Child Abuse America, through its chapters in 40 states, helps implement prevention initiatives at the national and state levels, provides education on the issue of child abuse and the factors that lead to it, and advocates for state and national policies that help eliminate such a problem

 

Healthy environments are essential to the well-being of children and their families. Without the fundamentals of good nutrition and access to health care we can't hope to prevent child abuse.


There is good reason for the old adage, safety first. Kids need safe and secure homes where accidents and injuries are the exception not the rule. Nurturing enviroments are characterized by loving action and loving words. We believe that the responsibility of putting these goals into practice starts with each one of us.

 


Specialized Alternatives for Families & Youth of America

Located in eight states – IN, OH, NV, OK, TX, KY, AL, SC, SAFY provides foster treatment care for over 1,000 children and their families. Additionally, the organization has programs such as an Independent Living Program and a Juvenile Justice Program.

Uhlich Children's Advantage Network (UCAN)

Servicing Chicago area at-risk youth, UCAN provides a range of services and resources to provide this target group with a comfortable and stable environment. Some of these programs include a residential treatment center to address inappropriate social behavior, and a community resource home for youth to live in so that they can learn skills necessary to live independently.
