As of Oct. 1, 2008 we will be shutting down the Town of Voluntown's website due to the requirements mandated by Public Act No. 08-3. Our site was developed and operated by the technology director from our school and exists by his generous donation of time and talent. |

The town has no IT department, and complying with the bill will put a burden on each board in town. If we don't comply, we are liable for law suits from FOI, costing time and money and if we do comply we could lose board members and cost us more money to have someone responsible to have everything on the site, both unapproved minutes (we could scan in napkins with the notes) and the approved minutes, this would only confuse anyone checking the site. We will maintain our email system of notification of town meetings, and other information we feel the town should be aware of.
The state is running deficit, and I'm trying to keep the town from wasting money unfunded state mandates.
You can help by contacting our State Representative Steve Mikutel and State Senator - Andrew Maynard .

Public Act No. 08-3 of the June 11 special session made some important changes to the Freedom of Information statutes. The changes, which are effective Oct. 1, will require all municipal public agencies to post their meeting minutes and notices for special meetings on the town's Web site within the same time frames that were already in the statute. Accordingly, the minutes for each meeting must be available on the town's Web site within seven days after the meeting, and special meeting notices must be posted on the town's Web site not less than 24 hours before the special meeting.
