Suspect in a series of rapes in Detroit is to be charged today

The lawyer for a man suspected of committing a series of rapes in northeast Detroit said his client has maintained he is innocent when talking to police, despite a possible DNA link to at least one of the women attacked. Attorney James L. Galen Jr. said he has met with his client twice, but has not discussed the specifics of the allegations. Galen said the man is to be arraigned today.

Long before he was charged with strangling his girlfriend in her southwestern Jefferson County apartment in November, Michael Dion Greene had amassed an extensive history of violent lawlessness, mental instability and substance abuse. Greene, who was 32 at the time of the slaying, had been arrested at least 20 times since he turned 18 and had spent more than half of his adult years behind bars.
